- The most important thing a father needs to think about is friendship, because friendship is what virtue is for. In fact a father’s entire leadership role can be understood as fostering friendships: with his wife, with his children, among his children, with his wife toward other couples, and of his children towards their peers. We'll give some thought to what friendship is and consider some practical ideas toward seeing that friendships in the family have the nature they should and develop in the right way.
